About the festival

Get ready to celebrate at the 8th annual DAY OF THE DEAD festival, brought to you with pride by the Latin American Cultural Association of Tasmania (LACAT)!

Join us at THE GOODS SHED, located at Macquarie Point precinct, 41 Evans St, Hobart, for an evening brimming with fantastic music from both local and interstate talents. Explore vibrant altars, indulge in delicious offerings from food stalls, savour refreshing drinks at our bars, enjoy professional face painting, and be entertained by captivating roving performances.

All the festivities fun goes towards supporting the Latin American culture in Tasmania through our dedicated LACAT registered, Not-for-Profit community group.

Flying down from the bigger island: 

🎶 THE LONE MARIACHI & SILVER MASKED MEN: Get ready for a fiesta like no other with original Mexican music, played by Mexicans all the way from Melbourne!

And joining us from the heart of our own local Latin legends are:

💃 SON DEL SUR: A 10-piece local Salsa and Latin Jazz ensemble guaranteed to offer up opportunities for a twirl on the dance floor!

🥁 BERIMBAU: Brace yourself for big Brazilian beats, from Samba to Bossa to Afro and Forro! An amazing group of musicians, each bringing a slice of fruit to this tropical fruit salad of sound.

🎸 YACURUNA: It’s a celebration of Latin American folk with mesmerising Boleros, upbeat Cumbias, heart-warming Bossas, and more.

🎺 XIXA: Tasmania’s very own Cumbia big band, performing cumbia bangers and a cheeky power ballad. Their mission? To ignite an irresistible dance frenzy in every soul!

🎧 SACA LA MOIS DJ!! (a.k.a. Moses Iten): He's your Cumbia and Bass specialist, spinning tropical tunes from his vast crates of vinyl and digital dubplates. Get ready to dance the night away to his beats!
